My Writing Today

One time, there was a local boy named Jacob. He’d always wore good clothing, like colourful clothes. He lived in the Auckland suburb of St Heliers. He had to watch the house after his parents went to visit someone important. The morning sun was glowing across the fields, and many people were happy. The wind was hitting the trees gently, and the birds were singing through the skies. Jacob would always say “Hi!” to his neighbours nicely, and after, walk through the neighbourhood. He went back inside to watch the news at noon.
As he was about to sit down, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake came without warning. “Whoa!” said Jacob. During the news, an unexpected report came up into view. “Warning: A new volcano is about to erupt!” announced the reporter. Jacob’s heart started beating like a drum. He went near a sliding door, and saw nothing, he looked the second time, and he saw a terrible sight. Boom. Something strange came up from the ocean near the Rangitoto mountain. He went outside. The T.V …

My New Sumdog Account

Today, I was on a new Sumdog account, starting from a brown rat, but this time, I had a school code.  Although, I haven't lost my winnings yet!  So, I went back to the classic game "Snowball", and luckily, I won my first one back. The player I played against was a robot, and it was a  commander, which is before a Destroyer.

Comprehension Activity

Today I played my comprehension activity. It was something to do with dictionaries. I passed two levels and won the game. I also had to find words that mean the same (hard is solid, tight is loose).

My Writing Today

Once, there was a peaceful, sunny day in Bangkok, Thailand. The sun was shining. The blue skies were filled with white clouds. Birds were singing. Cars were moving down the streets, with the buildings standing tall, and the roads and streets was filled with fresh air. There was also a man called Philip. He was a miserable man who always had a straight face. He never liked the streets, all going to be filled up with car gas and petrol. Philip had black hair and wore black clothing. He would always walk through the streets, seeing rubbish thrown everywhere.
Then, everything changed. Quiet. The birds weren’t singing or chirping at all. Small earthquakes made cracks on the grounds. Cars stopped. All Philip heard was the sound of water violently coming. “What is that?” Philip mumbled. He was being a little scared, so he started walking back home. Then he heard the crashing of water, coming towards the city. He stood still, watching the 30 feet wave coming near. It was as tall as the buildi…

Mendel's MAGIC Math Market

Today I played Mendells Magic Math Market. This game taught me how to do fractions by using fruit, for example, I used apples in the first level.  There were 5 apples, with 2 of them green.
The next level had mandarins. I had to make a correct fraction with the mandarins shown below.
There were three orange mandarins, with one of them red.

Fractions Game

Today I also played another fraction game. I had to find a fraction that had a shade. For example, I had to find shapes that were shaded 1 half.

I found 3 shapes shaded 1 half.

Word Problems with Fractions

Today I played word problems with fractions. There were many questions that I had to answer. Some were easy, some were hard. This game taught me how to solve problems using fractions, like half and quarter.

Rhythm and Rhyme

Letter Drop

Today for spelling I played Letter Drop. I had to find letters from the piles of falling letters to make a word from my spelling. This spelling game teaches me to spell words correctly from a bunch of other random letters

Today I also played Defender. I was practising how to spell my words correctly.

Today I played Spelleriums  I had to put in letters that complete the word I am looking. I got up to Level 3 and there was so many spaceships that I couldn't keep up.

All My Great Excuses

I started on my homework
but my pen ran out of ink.
My hamster ate my homework.
My computer's on the blink.

I accidentally dropped it
in the soup my mom was cooking.
My brother flushed it down the toilet
when I wasn't looking.

My mother ran my homework
through the washer and the dryer.
An airplane crashed into our house.
My homework caught on fire.

Tornadoes blew my notes away.
Volcanoes struck our town.
My notes were taken hostage
by an evil killer clown.

Some aliens abducted me.
I had a shark attack.
A pirate swiped my homework
and refused to give it back.

I worked on these excuses
so darned long my teacher said,
"I think you'll find it's easier
to do the work instead."

Back To School by Cheryl Sandberg

Pencils, sharpeners, rubbers, pens,
at last a chance to see your friends.
Highlighters, folders, books, glue,
make sure your ink is black and not blue.
Notepad, scissors, markers, ring binders,
and you've clipped in your colour dividers.
Protractor, tape, set square, pencil case,
check it to see that all is in place.
Files, calculator, ruler, gym shoes
and that’s the whole kit all ready to use.
